Geography

At Dosthill Primary Academy, we believe in delivering high-quality Geography lessons that inspire curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world. By the end of primary school, it is our intention that all children have a strong grasp of the amazing world in which they live. Our Geography curriculum, taught on a weekly basis using the Rising Stars scheme, is designed to engage pupils in exploring their local area and the wider world. The programme provides units of learning that encourage pupils to think critically and develop as geographical thinkers.

Pupils tackle various geographical challenges and explore key questions to build their subject knowledge, concepts, and vocabulary. Through the use of resources such as maps, atlases, globes, photographs, and digital platforms, pupils enhance their understanding of geography. Fieldwork and observational skills are also a vital part of our curriculum, with opportunities for children to explore the school grounds, local community, and beyond. This practical approach helps pupils to communicate their geographical knowledge in a variety of creative ways.

Our Geography curriculum is closely aligned with the Discovery Curriculum, incorporating key threads like Curiosity, Diversity, and Sustainability. We encourage pupils to explore the Variety and richness of the world’s landscapes, cultures, and ecosystems, fostering a deep respect for the environment and the diversity of life. Geography at Dosthill helps children see how interconnected the world is and equips them with the knowledge and skills to make sense of global challenges, preparing them to be informed and responsible global citizens.
