Design and Technology
It Dosthill Primary Academy, we believe that Design and Technology should inspire creativity, imagination, and practical problem-solving skills. Through this subject, pupils acquire a broad range of knowledge and skills, drawing from mathematics, science, and art to design and create solutions for real-world challenges. Design and Technology encourages pupils to become resourceful, innovative, and resilient, preparing them for the future.
Our Design and Technology curriculum, delivered through the National Curriculum and structured around engaging, hands-on activities, enables pupils to design and make products that address real and relevant problems. Pupils learn to consider the needs and values of others, reflecting critically on their work through regular evaluation and improvement. From constructing mechanisms and structures to preparing food, our pupils develop skills that are not only practical but also transferable across different areas of learning.
This approach aligns with our Discovery Curriculum, embedding key threads such as Creativity, Challenge, and Problem-Solving. These threads encourage pupils to embrace new ideas, experiment with different materials and techniques, and adapt their designs in response to feedback. Through this, pupils build confidence in taking risks and learning from mistakes - essential skills for success both in school and beyond.
