History
At Dosthill Primary Academy, our overarching goal in History is to ignite interest and foster a deep love for the subject among our students. We believe that a strong foundation in History helps children understand the world around them and develop a sense of identity and belonging. Our carefully designed History curriculum provides a coherent and progressive learning journey, encompassing key knowledge, skills, and concepts.
We follow the Rising Stars scheme of work, which covers a broad range of historical topics, exploring key periods, events, themes, and significant individuals from both British and World History. Each unit is framed by a ‘Key Question’ that promotes historical enquiry and encourages pupils to investigate the past. Through this approach, pupils develop their understanding of how history has shaped the world we live in today.
In line with our Discovery Curriculum, History lessons at Dosthill are driven by the core values of Curiosity and Enquiry. Pupils are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and engage in discussions about historical events and figures. We enhance classroom learning through educational visits, workshops, and guest historians, providing real-life connections that bring historical experiences to life.
