Physical Education

At Dosthill Primary Academy, we understand the importance of Physical Education (PE) and its positive impact on both the physical and mental well-being of our children. Our PE curriculum is designed to give pupils the opportunity to learn and compete in a wide variety of sporting activities, while instilling values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership - skills that can be applied across other areas of their lives.

We follow the PE Hub scheme of work, which ensures that our pupils experience a range of activities and build on their skills each year. From learning fundamental skills and movements in Reception and Key Stage 1 to applying these in team sports and tactical situations in Key Stage 2, we aim to equip pupils with the confidence to participate and explore new sports. Additionally, we use the imoves programme for dance, delivering age-appropriate routines that progress in difficulty.

From Year 3 onwards, swimming lessons are provided, with the goal of every child being able to swim 25 meters unassisted by the end of Year 6. Pupils are taught essential stroke techniques and water safety skills, progressing to more advanced levels as their confidence grows.

Our PE curriculum is closely aligned with the Discovery Curriculum, embedding key threads such as Challenge, Resilience, and Teamwork. We encourage pupils to showcase these traits not only in physical education lessons but also in competitive sports, where they have the opportunity to represent the school in local and county-wide events.

Through our comprehensive approach to PE, we strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where every pupil has the opportunity to succeed and flourish both physically and mentally.

Sports Premium

The PE and sports premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. The funding is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport; it comes directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Please see the report below which details how the funds were spent in 2023-2024:
